This trail is a moderate hike but a longer trail, at 4.5 miles, and 1,975 feet of elevation gain. When you reach the top of the trail, you are at the highest point in the Bridger Mountain Range (9,596 feet) where you enjoy 360-degree unobstructed views. At the bottom, you can walk down to Fairy Lake, a gorgeous, blue/green high alpine lake. This trail is not accessible in winter.

South Cottonwood Creek Trail is an easy trail that is friendly for all levels of hikers. The trail is 4.4 miles long with 488 feet of elevation gain with gorgeous creek crossings. This trail is very popular, so consider getting an early start.

If you are looking for a good hike close to home be sure to hike the College M Trail. You can see the “M” on the Bridger Mountains, where two trails converge at the top. You may select a longer, more moderate trail, or the shorter, more advanced trail. No matter which trail you chose, you will find yourself at the top by the “M” and have incredible views of all of Bozeman.
